Unlocking Toshiba SD290EKB (Multi-region)

1) Connect to TV
2) Power on DVD
3) Enter 7777 using remote
4) Use on-screen menu to change region code (region code 0 = region-code free)
5) Power off DVD

or the hack procedure:

1) Power On
2) Open Tray
3) Press 9879 0 (0 stands for Multiregion, you may press buttons 1 to 6 to choose a specific region)
4) A Message appears stating that "The Reg.No was changed to: [insert whatever region (0-6) you selected here]"

Playing DVD's (Ubuntu 8.10)

Add the repositories first:

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/intrepid.list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

Then add the GPG key:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update

Then install libdvdcss2:

sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

ALBA DVD62XI DVD Region Hack

The ALBA DVD62XI dvd player is not multiregional out of the box, but there is a simple set of instructions to make it that way.

1. Turn on your TV and DVD player.
2. Press the Open/Close button on the remote control.
3. Using your remote control, key in the following numbers from the keypad: 3, 3, 0, 8, 8 one after the other,
4. Then immediately press the 10/0 button on the remote control to set the region to 0 which is the multiregional setting.
5. Pres the Open/Close button on the remote control.

Your player should now be multiregional... try a few DVDs and you'll see its all set up!

Dansai DVD-852 Region hack

To get the Dansai DVD-852 to play multi region DVD's:

Press set up.
Press stop on front panel of player.
Press rewind on front panel of player.
Press fast forward on front panel of player.

Change Factory settings:
Go to region ID.
Down to bypass.
Press play.
Press set up.

The macrovision can also be turned off or on the factory settings page, but the default is off.

Playing DVD's (Mepis 7.0)

First you need to install the "libdvdcss2" software. To do so type into a console (as su).....

kate /etc/apt/sources.list

and unhash the line which reads.....

# deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main

so that it reads......

deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main

Reload your sources, either via Apt with the "update" command, or via Synaptic with the "reload" button. Then search for and install the libdvdcss2 package. DVD's will now play in Kaffeine, KM Player etc.
